2009 UGA Middle School Music Festival

We are pleased to announce the Dickerson Symphonic Band has been invited to present a concert at the 2009 University of Georgia Middle School Music Festival!Dickerson is one of five guest bands invited to perform for the approximately 900 middle school band students from across the Southeast who attend this clinic each year. The Festival will be held in December, and we will post details on the website as they become available!

This is a tremendous honor for next year's band, and we know they will rise to the challenge and prepare a wonderful concert!

We also want to thank the members of the 2008-2009 8th Grade Symphonic Band who made this invitation possible! Best of luck to these students as they head up to Walton HS next year.

We are proud to announce that the Dickerson Middle School Band Program has been selected by the Georgia Music Educators Association to receive the 2009 GMEA Exemplary Performance Award!

The EPA was established to recognize middle school bands that achieve outstanding results in all areas of performance sponsored by the Georgia Music Educators Association. These areas include Large Group Performance Evaluation, Solo and Ensemble, All-State Band, and District Honor Band.

The award is given to recognize the outstanding bands in Georgia whose students excel in all aspects of band performance, both individually and as part of a group. The selection process required the following documentation to be submitted with the application – CD of the Large Group Performance Evaluation Concert, Band Roster, a copy of the District Honor Band Program, a list of All-State participants, copies of Performance Evaluation Adjudicator sheets, and a list of Solo and Ensemble participants with their ratings.

The Dickerson Middle School Band Program has the distinction of being the first band in Georgia to receive this prestigious award.
